Protect What You Love
Stone is proud to give 1% For the Planet on a National and Local Level.
Stone has always been dedicated to taking care of our natural playgrounds. That is why we are proud to be a 1% For the Planet organization. Locally, Stone Climbing is committed to giving to the Matanzas Riverkeeper in an effort to keep our waterways clean, fishable, and swimable. Earlier this year, Stone contributed over $4,000 to their efforts to preserve the Matanzas River, ensuring a thriving ecosystem for future generations.
We believe strongly in protecting and preserving our outdoor playgrounds.
Thanks to our contribution, Matanzas Riverkeeper was able to purchase a new computer equipped to run Geographical Information Systems (GIS) - computer-based tools used to store, visualize, analyze, and interpret geographic data. This tool has enabled them to create mapping materials to help protect the health of our watershed. By utilizing recent census data, Matanzas Riverkeeper has been able to identify areas in the watershed where disparately impacted communities are located, and overlay information about the occurrence of water quality violations like sewage spills. The information illustrated in these maps will help them to target our efforts to improve water quality in the areas that need it most.
Stone’s donation has helped the Matanzas Riverkeeper produce a series of computer-generated maps that has already played a crucial role in securing increased funding for the St. Johns County Land Acquisition and Management Program (LAMP) – the County’s program for purchasing conservation land to enhance ecological communities, green space, water resources, and outdoor passive recreation. By creating a series of maps to demonstrate where conservation land currently exists and how much land has been identified as potential conservation land but remains unprotected, the non-profit was able to convince the County Commission to increase funding for the program from $500,000 to $2 million for the upcoming budget cycle. Conserving land is one of the best ways to protect our water. This funding increase is a huge win for St. Johns County's natural resources.
